When I first had Fiida remove Oz from the previous scene there was an onslaught of speculation about whether they were dead or not, which I found super interestedin because if I was reading this it's not the assumption I would've made. But there's definitely been stories where something like that happens and then the character just never comes back and that ends up being really, really weird because most of the time it's like the story just forgets they ever even existed. In a very casual way, no one mourns, no one even notices. It's such a strange experience.

In any case, this might end up being an exercise in conveyance in the long run. In my mind it makes sense to me that making a student disappear would be a bad idea if you're going for stealth/infiltration and security awareness is already high to begin with due to other crap going on, but it doesn't seem to be as clear cut to a good chunk of readers, so maybe a passing mention or acknowledgement of it in a way that doesn't feel over-explainy might be good sometime? idk writing is an ever unfolding experiment haha.
